This is the coffee cake I grew up with. My mom would make this cake for birthdays, family gatherings, or just for a fun dessert. This cake has a lovely vanilla undertone and is unbelievably tender with a crisp cinnamon sugar top. The use of cream cheese (instead of the usual sour cream) gives it a perfect tang that offsets the sweetness. This cake is wonderful for dessert or, since it's not too sweet, a special breakfast treat.
